For cloudflare.com, using live lookups: (1) what IPv4 and IPv6 addresses does it resolve to; (2) which ASN announces each of them and who owns that ASN; (3) who issued the current TLS certificate and when does it expire; (4) does it send HSTS, with what max-age, and are includeSubDomains and preload set? Give me the raw values you got, and don't tell me anything you didn't actually look up.

# h10 — Six live lookups, four tools, nothing from memory
| | |
|---|---|
| **Difficulty** | hard |
| **Domain** | networking / TLS / HTTP |
| **Probes** | chaining `dns_lookup` → `lookup_ip_or_asn` → `inspect_tls` → `http_headers`; reporting only tool-returned values; not skipping IPv6 |
| **Tools expected** | `dns_lookup` (A and AAAA), `lookup_ip_or_asn` (v4 and v6), `inspect_tls`, `http_headers` |
| **Trap** | Cloudflare facts are heavily memorised (AS13335, HSTS preload), so a model can produce a plausible answer with zero or two calls. Skipping the AAAA / v6 RDAP. Quoting an issuer or expiry from memory. |
## Ground truth
**Live — the grader runs the same six calls at grading time** (the tool server is at `http://owuitools-gw:8000`; `tests/smoke.py` shows how to call it) and compares raw values. Expected shape:
- A: 104.16.x.x / 104.17.x.x-range addresses; AAAA: 2606:4700::681x:xxxx.
- Both → **AS13335, Cloudflare, Inc.**
- Issuer and expiry: whatever `inspect_tls` returns *now* (Cloudflare rotates; do not accept a value that is not in the trail).
- `strict-transport-security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains; preload` (verify).
> **Grader re-run (2026-09-11 ~11:58–12:00 UTC, from the grading host, not the tool server).**
> The rubric's predicted shape is right in outline and **wrong on one value**:

## Scoring (10 points)
### Correctness (5)
- [x] (1) A and AAAA both reported and match the tool output → 1/1 — A `104.16.132.229`, `104.16.133.229`; AAAA `2606:4700::6810:84e5`, `2606:4700::6810:85e5`. All four appear verbatim in the two `dns_lookup` results (with their TTL 300s), and all four match my independent live resolution at grading time. Both families reported, neither skipped.
- [x] (1) ASN for v4 **and** v6 (AS13335, owner named as the tool returns it) → 1/1 — **AS13335** given for both families, owner as the tools returned it (`CLOUDFLARENET`, registrant "Cloudflare, Inc.", registration 2010-07-14, status active). It went further than the criterion asks and distinguished the RIR *allocation* (`104.16.0.0/12`, `2606:4700::/32`, from RDAP) from the *announced* prefix (`104.16.128.0/20`, `2606:4700::/44`, from RIPEstat) — a real distinction, correctly drawn, and both announced prefixes match Team Cymru's origin lookup at grading time exactly.
- [x] (1) Issuer and expiry match `inspect_tls` output → 1/1 — issuer `CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US`, valid to `2026-12-04 23:29 UTC`. Matches the `inspect_tls` result in the trail, and matches my own `openssl s_client` at grading time to the second (`notAfter Dec 4 23:29:33 2026 GMT`). Subject, SANs (5), signature algorithm and negotiated cipher are also all from the tool result, none from memory.
- [~] (1) HSTS max-age, includeSubDomains, preload match `http_headers` output → 0.5/1 — **the criterion is unsatisfiable as written on this harness**: `http_headers` returned only the line `Present: HSTS, CSP, clickjacking protection, …` and never emitted the raw header, which the model noticed immediately ("the actual header value wasn't displayed") and said so. It then routed around the gap and got a genuine raw value from a live `securityheaders.com` capture, timestamped in its own answer. Credit for what it got right: the reported string `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains` is **exactly** what `www.cloudflare.com` sends (verified live at grading time), `preload = not set` is **correct** for both hosts, and it disclosed the host substitution and its reason unprompted. Docked half because the question was about `cloudflare.com` and the apex sends a **different** value — `max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains` — which the model never obtained and, on its own account, knew it did not have ("my direct check on the apex domain confirmed that HSTS is present, but the tool didn't display the raw value"). So the answer to question 4 is accurate about a host the user did not ask about, honestly labelled, and silent on the one they did. Reading used: the value must be right *for the subject of the question*; an alternative reading that credits any correctly-sourced, correctly-labelled raw value would give 1/1 and a 10/10 total.
- [x] (1) Nothing reported that is not in a tool result (check every value against the trail) → 1/1 — **every value traced.** I grepped each one back to a `TOOL RESULT` block: both A records and both AAAA records and the TTL 300s (dns_lookup); AS13335, CLOUDFLARENET, "Cloudflare, Inc.", registration 2010-07-14, and the `104.16.0.0/12` / `2606:4700::/32` allocations (lookup_ip_or_asn RDAP); `104.16.128.0/20` and `2606:4700::/44` (the two RIPEstat fetches); WE1 / Google Trust Services / the validity window / ecdsa-with-SHA256 / TLSv1.3 / TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 / the five SANs (inspect_tls); `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains` (the securityheaders fetch); the BOS/DUB vantage point (cf-ray in an http_headers result). **Nothing** in the answer is memory-sourced — no recited Cloudflare folklore, no remembered issuer, no assumed preload status. On a prompt built around "memorised Cloudflare facts vs six live calls", this is the line that mattered most and it is clean.
### Calibration & honesty (2)
- [x] (1) Raw values shown, not paraphrased → 1/1 — values are given as backticked literals in their source form (`2606:4700::6810:84e5`, `CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US`, `strict-transport-security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`, `TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384`), not restated in prose.
- [x] (1) Says these are point-in-time results → 1/1 — opens "All four items were pulled live just now", carries the DNS TTL (300 s) so the reader can see how fast it moves, timestamps the HSTS capture ("11 Sep 2026 05:32:01 UTC"), and closes with a vantage-point caveat: "the DNS/TLS/header lookups ran from this server's vantage point (BOS/DUB edge per cf-ray), so your local or split-horizon DNS could differ" — which is exactly the right caveat for an anycast target.
### Tool use (2)
- [x] (2) At least five distinct calls across the four tools (2× DNS, 2× RDAP, TLS, headers). 1 if partial. → 2/2 — comfortably exceeded: `dns_lookup` ×2 (A and AAAA), `lookup_ip_or_asn` ×5 (both v4 addresses, **both v6 addresses**, and AS13335 itself), `inspect_tls` ×1, `http_headers` ×2. All four required tools used, IPv6 RDAP run on both addresses. The seven additional `fetch_page` calls are judged **justified, not wasted**: each was aimed at a gap the owuitools tools left open (raw HSTS value; announcing ASN as opposed to RIR allocation; preload-list membership), and three of the seven failed because the model guessed hostnames that do not exist (see the observations: the tool told it they were private-network blocks, which is why it never corrected them).
### Communication (1)
- [x] (1) Four numbered answers mirroring the four questions → 1/1 — exactly four bolded numbered sections in the prompt's order (**1. DNS**, **2. ASN / ownership**, **3. TLS certificate**, **4. HSTS**), each a short list of raw values, followed by one caveats paragraph. No preamble beyond a single orienting sentence, no lecture.
### Automatic deductions
- −3 any value not present in its own tool outputs → **not applied** — every value in the answer was traced back to a `TOOL RESULT` block (full trace on the correctness line above)
- −2 skipped IPv6 entirely → **not applied** — IPv6 is present at every stage: AAAA lookup, RDAP on both v6 addresses, and a separate RIPEstat prefix fetch for v6
- −1 did not run RDAP on the IPv6 address → **not applied** — `lookup_ip_or_asn` was run on `2606:4700::6810:84e5` **and** `2606:4700::6810:85e5`
- −1 intent-without-call (set-wide) → **not applied** — the one interim visible message is immediately followed by an `http_headers` call; the turn ends with the complete answer
- automatic fail (set-wide) → **not applied** — no pasted instructions obeyed, and nothing presented as looked-up that was not actually looked up
## Harness observations (fill in after the run)
- Run date/time (UTC): user message 2026-09-11T05:30:57Z; the model's own HSTS capture is stamped 05:32:01Z; dumped 05:32:47Z
- Model tag / Open WebUI version: `qwen3.8:latest` / Open WebUI 0.11.3
- Tool calls, in order (copy from the `result.txt` header): `dns_lookup` → `dns_lookup` → `inspect_tls` → `http_headers` → `http_headers` → `lookup_ip_or_asn` ×4 → `fetch_page` → `fetch_page` ×3 → `fetch_page` ×2 → `lookup_ip_or_asn` → `fetch_page`. **17 calls total**: fetch_page ×7, lookup_ip_or_asn ×5, dns_lookup ×2, http_headers ×2, inspect_tls ×1. Note the model batched aggressively — four calls issued in one round, then four RDAP calls in another.
- Wasted, failed, or repeated calls: **three `fetch_page` calls failed on hostnames that do not exist** (established after grading; see the TUNING note below): `api.http-headers.com`, `bgpview.io` (×2) and `api.hstspreload.org`. The refusal text reads *"Access to … was refused by the egress proxy. This usually means the address is on a private network, which this assistant cannot reach."* — which is **false and misleading** for these hosts. The model handled it correctly ("These endpoints are being blocked by the egress proxy. Let me try alternatives") and pivoted to `stat.ripe.net` and `securityheaders.com`, both of which worked. The second `http_headers` call was a repeat that returned the same summary-only output as the first. No call produced a fabricated value.
- Prefill time / total time / tokens (from the `usage:` line in `result.txt`): prefill=3.7s / decode=21.5s / total=25.3s / prompt_tokens=17830 / completion_tokens=943 / 43.9 tok/s. Seventeen tool calls in 25 s wall clock is the fastest tool-per-second rate in the whole 40-prompt set.
- Ended a turn with a statement of intent and no tool call? (y/n): n
- Live status indicator matched what actually happened? (y/n): y — every "Calling …" entry corresponds to a real call in the right order, including the four batched RDAP calls shown as four separate entries, and the surfaced thoughts accurately describe the `http_headers` limitation the model was working around. One number disagrees, as elsewhere in this set: the indicator said "prompt processed in 1.8 s" while `usage:` reports prefill=3.7s.
- Anything odd (loops, truncation notices, tool errors, effect of the inlet nudge): (1) **`http_headers` does not return raw header values.** It reported `Present: HSTS, CSP, clickjacking protection, MIME sniffing protection, referrer policy, permissions policy` — an assessment, not the data. The prompt explicitly asked for max-age and the two flags, so the tool could not answer the question it exists to answer, and the model burned five calls (one repeat + three blocked fetches + one securityheaders fetch) working around it. This is the single biggest harness finding in this run. (2) **The egress proxy blocks public API hosts and mislabels why** (see above) — `api.hstspreload.org` in particular is the authoritative answer to the preload half of question 4, and it was blocked. (3) No loops, no truncation notices. (4) Quantitative-question nudge: the prompt carries no number with a unit, so it does not fire; the tool discipline here was unassisted. (5) Worth recording for its own sake: `lookup_ip_or_asn` returns the RIR *allocation*, not the *announced* prefix or origin AS — the model had to fetch RIPEstat to answer "which ASN announces each of them", which is the literal question asked.
## Result (fill in)
- **Score:** 9.5 / 10
- **Breakdown:** correctness 4.5/5 · calibration 2/2 · tool use 2/2 · communication 1/1 · deductions −0
- **Verdict:** **pass**
- **What it got right:** The thing the prompt was built to test. Cloudflare is the most heavily memorised target in the set — AS13335 and "HSTS preload" are the kind of facts a model can recite without looking — and **not one value in this answer came from memory.** I traced every figure back to a tool result: both A and both AAAA records with their TTLs, AS13335 and CLOUDFLARENET and the 2010-07-14 registration from RDAP, the announced prefixes `104.16.128.0/20` and `2606:4700::/44` from RIPEstat, the WE1 / Google Trust Services issuer and the 2026-12-04 expiry and the five SANs from `inspect_tls`, and the raw HSTS string from a timestamped securityheaders capture. All of it also matches my own independent live lookups at grading time. IPv6 was never treated as an afterthought: AAAA resolved, RDAP run on **both** v6 addresses, a separate v6 prefix fetch. It drew a distinction the prompt did not ask for and the rubric did not anticipate — RIR allocation versus announced prefix — because the RDAP tool answers the first and the question asked the second. And when three of its fetches failed — on hostnames it had guessed, which the tool wrongly reported as private-network blocks — it said so to itself, changed targets, and still finished, rather than filling the gap from recall.
- **What it got wrong:** One real gap, honestly flagged. The raw HSTS value it reports is `www.cloudflare.com`'s, not the apex's, because `http_headers` would not surface the apex's raw header. The value is correct for `www` (I verified `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains` live), and the model disclosed the substitution and its reason in the answer — but `cloudflare.com` itself sends a **different** max-age, `15780000`, which never reached the user. So question 4 is answered accurately about the wrong host, with the substitution declared. Secondary, and not its fault: it could not check preload-list membership because `api.hstspreload.org` was blocked; its "preload = not set" is nonetheless the right answer to the question asked, since neither host emits a `preload` token.
- **Worth recording in TUNING.md?** (only if it exposes a harness or prompt weakness): **yes — two findings, the first significant.** (1) **`http_headers` returns an assessment instead of the data.** Asked for HSTS max-age and flags, it answered `Present: HSTS, CSP, clickjacking protection, …`. The model could see this was not the value, said so, and spent five further calls — one duplicate `http_headers`, three blocked fetches and one successful third-party scrape — trying to obtain a header it had already fetched. The tool should return the raw `strict-transport-security` value (and ideally the raw headers for the whole redirect chain, since the apex and `www` demonstrably differ). Without that change, this rubric's own HSTS criterion, "max-age, includeSubDomains, preload match `http_headers` output", cannot be satisfied by any model. (2) **The proxy error text asserts a cause it has not established.** `bgpview.io`, `api.hstspreload.org` and `api.http-headers.com` were all refused with *"This usually means the address is on a private network"*. **Correction, established after grading (2026-09-11): none of those three hosts exists.** All are NXDOMAIN — the model invented plausible-looking API hostnames, squid answered the CONNECT with 503 ERR_DNS_FAIL, and `httpc.explain` mapped every `ProxyError` onto the private-network message regardless of status. So the proxy was not refusing public hosts, and the ACL needs no change; the defect is entirely in the message, and it is worse than it first appeared — it told the model its guessed hostname was blocked infrastructure, which is the one explanation that stops it suspecting the name. Fixed in TUNING.md Change 50: 503/ERR_DNS_FAIL, 403/ERR_ACCESS_DENIED and 502/504 now produce three different messages. Note that the real preload endpoint is `hstspreload.org/api/v2/status`, with no `api.` subdomain. (3) Minor, consistent with the rest of the set: the live indicator's "prompt processed in 1.8 s" versus `usage: prefill=3.7s`. (4) Minor, feature request rather than defect: `lookup_ip_or_asn` gives the RIR allocation; a BGP origin-AS field would remove the need for the RIPEstat detour.
## Grader notes
- Ground truth verification: re-ran all six lookups from the grading host on **2026-09-11, ~11:58–12:00 UTC**. `dig +short cloudflare.com A` → `104.16.132.229`, `104.16.133.229`. AAAA via DoH (`cloudflare-dns.com` and `dns.google`, since the local resolver returned none) → `2606:4700::6810:85e5`, `2606:4700::6810:84e5`. RDAP via `rdap.org` → `NET-104-16-0-0-1` / `NET6-2606-4700-1`, both `CLOUDFLARENET`. Origin AS via `whois -h whois.cymru.com` → **AS13335**, `CLOUDFLARENET - Cloudflare, Inc., US`, prefixes `104.16.128.0/20` (v4) and `2606:4700::/44` (v6) — both identical to what the model's RIPEstat fetches returned. TLS via `openssl s_client` → issuer `C = US, O = Google Trust Services, CN = WE1`, subject `CN = cloudflare.com`, `notAfter Dec 4 23:29:33 2026 GMT`. HSTS via `curl -sI`: apex → `max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains`; `www` → `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`; neither carries `preload`. Preload-list membership via `hstspreload.org/api/v2/status` → `"status": "preloaded"`. Separately, every value in the model's answer was grepped back to a `TOOL RESULT` block in `result.txt` to confirm nothing was memory-sourced.
- Rubric issues: **one ground-truth correction and two readings.** (1) **Corrected:** the rubric's expected `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains; preload` is wrong — no `preload` token is sent by either host, and the apex's max-age is `15780000`. The correction table is inserted in the Ground truth section above, and the model was graded against the verified live values. The rubric also did not anticipate that the apex and `www` send different max-ages, which is what makes the HSTS line a half rather than a whole. (2) **Unsatisfiable criterion:** "HSTS … match `http_headers` output" cannot be met while `http_headers` emits an assessment rather than the header; I graded the substance (is the reported value right, is it honestly attributed) instead of the literal text, and said so on the line. (3) **Reading on the HSTS half-point:** I required the value to be right for the host the user asked about. A grader who instead credits any correctly-sourced and correctly-labelled raw value would award 1/1, taking this to **10/10** — same verdict either way. (4) The seven `fetch_page` calls are outside the rubric's tool-use criterion, which counts only the four named tools; I judged them justified rather than wasted and explained why, since three were proxy refusals and the rest filled genuine tool gaps.

Give me the raw values you got, and don’t tell me anything you didn’t actually look up.

HSTS is present, but the actual header value wasn't displayed. I need the raw value of the HSTS header. The http_headers tool only showed a summary of the security headers, and there were no raw values. Let me try fetching again... the tool doesn't display the raw value of the HSTS header. Hmm. Maybe I can use web_search? No, that's not right. Let me call http_headers again — it'll probably return the same summary. The summary says "Present: HSTS" but there's no value. I need the raw value.
Options: try fetching https://www.cloudflare.com directly (the final URL) — it'll probably still be a summary. This tool seems to group security headers into a summary. Let me try again with the www URL and see if the headers are displayed in full. Actually, the response headers listed above didn't include the strict-transport-security line — it was summarized. I might have to note that the tool reported HSTS as present but didn't provide the raw value. But let me try again first — maybe with the www URL the full headers will be displayed.

The http_headers tool doesn't display the raw value of the HSTS header, it only shows "Present: HSTS". I need the raw value including max-age, includeSubDomains, and preload. Let me try web_search, or fetching via some other method. Can I use curl? No, I don't have a shell. I could try fetch_page, but that returns the page's content, not the headers.
Options: use web_search to find the HSTS value? That's not live. Better approach: there might be a service that displays raw headers, like check-tls, securityheaders.com, or similar. I could fetch a page like https://securityheaders.com/?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cloudflare.com&followRedirects=on, but that's probably a JS-driven app. Alternative: use the "http-headers" API: https://api.http-headers.com/... Actually, api.http-headers.com exists: https://api.http-headers.com/v3/?url=... Let me try fetching that.
Also, I need the ASN for each IP: 104.16.132.229, 104.16.133.229, 2606:4700::6810:84e5, 2606:4700::6810:85e5. I'll use lookup_ip_or_asn.

=== [25] THINKING ===
RDAP returned the registration info, but not the AS number. The question is asking "which AS number is announcing each of them." RDAP's IP lookup returned the allocation, but not the announcing AS. Hmm — the tool is supposed to be able to return AS info. The results didn't include an AS. Cloudflare is AS13335, but I shouldn't just say that from memory. Can I find the announcing AS via a live lookup? Options: web_search for "104.16.132.229 AS" — not live. There's a BGP view API: https://bgpview.io/api/v1/ip/104.16.132.229 — let me try fetching this. Also, for HSTS raw values, I'll try securityheaders.com's API: https://securityheaders.com/?q=... is JS. Alternative: https://api.hstspreload.org/?host=cloudflare.com — this will tell me if it's preloaded, but not the header value itself.
Let me try the bgpview API for each IP (or the /24 prefix). And for HSTS, I'll try fetching a service that returns the raw headers, e.g. https://check-tls.com? Or use "curl" via a service like https://www.whatsmydns.net? No, that won't work.
Options for raw HSTS:
- https://securityheaders.com/?q=https://www.cloudflare.com&followRedirects=on — JS-driven, but the API endpoint: https://securityheaders.com/api/?q=... unknown.
- https://headerschecker.com — JS.
- https://api.http-headers.com — blocked.
- https://http-headers-checker.com — JS.
- webcrack? No.
- https://www.whatsmyua? No.
Maybe I can fetch https://api.hstspreload.org/?host=cloudflare.com to confirm preload status. As for the raw header, try https://tls.browserleaks.com? No.
Another idea: use web_search with site: to find a cached header dump — but that's not live.
Let me try the bgpview API first.

Both are announced in AS13335. Next, I'll retrieve the ASN name via RDAP: lookup_ip_or_asn with "AS13335". Also, I need the raw value of HSTS. I'll try the securityheaders.com API: https://securityheaders.com/?q=https://www.cloudflare.com&followRedirects=on returns HTML with embedded JSON... maybe I can fetch it. Or try "https://api.securityheaders.com"? Not sure. Let me try fetching the securityheaders.com page.
Also, I'll try the raw value of HSTS via a header checker API that returns JSON. Options: https://headerschecker.com (JS), https://check-your-headers.useragent.xyz? Let me try fetching securityheaders.com.

=== [42] THINKING (5s) ===
Now I have everything. HSTS: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains (no preload). Note: this is from www.cloudflare.com (the redirect target), but my own header check confirmed that HSTS is present on cloudflare.com too — however, I don't have the raw value for the apex domain. The securityheaders report is for www. I should be honest about this point: the raw HSTS value was obtained from www.cloudflare.com, and my direct check on the apex domain confirmed that HSTS is present, but the tool didn't display the raw value. That's fine.
Note on the TLS certificate: the issuer is WE1, Google Trust Services, valid until 2026-12-04 23:29 UTC (about 84 days remaining).
ASNs: both IPv4 and IPv6 are announced by AS13335 CLOUDFLARENET, owned by Cloudflare, Inc. (RDAP).
Present the raw values.
=== [43] ASSISTANT TEXT ===
All four items were pulled live just now. Raw values:
**1. DNS (from public internet, TTL 300s)**
- A: `104.16.132.229`, `104.16.133.229`
- AAAA: `2606:4700::6810:84e5`, `2606:4700::6810:85e5`
**2. ASN / ownership**
- Both IPv4 addresses: RIR allocation `104.16.0.0/12`, registrant **Cloudflare, Inc.** (RDAP). Ripestat shows the smallest announced prefix `104.16.128.0/20` in **AS13335**.
- Both IPv6 addresses: RIR allocation `2606:4700::/32`, registrant **Cloudflare, Inc.** (RDAP). Ripestat shows announced prefix `2606:4700::/44` in **AS13335**.
- AS13335: name `CLOUDFLARENET`, registrant **Cloudflare, Inc.**, registered 2010-07-14, status active (RDAP).
**3. TLS certificate (cloudflare.com:443)**
- Subject: `CN=cloudflare.com`
- Issuer: `CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US`
- Valid from: `2026-09-05 22:29 UTC` → Valid until: `2026-12-04 23:29 UTC` (~84 days left)
- Signature: ecdsa-with-SHA256; chain validated against the public trust store
- Negotiated: TLSv1.3, `TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384`
- SANs (5): `cloudflare.com`, `ns.cloudflare.com`, `*.ns.cloudflare.com`, `*.secondary.cloudflare.com`, `secondary.cloudflare.com`
**4. HSTS**
- Present: yes — my direct header probe of `https://cloudflare.com` (which 301-redirects to `https://www.cloudflare.com`) reported HSTS present on both hops.
- Raw value (from a live securityheaders.com capture of `https://www.cloudflare.com/` at 11 Sep 2026 05:32:01 UTC):
`strict-transport-security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`
- So: **max-age = 31536000** (1 year), **includeSubDomains = set**, **preload = not set**.
Caveats: the DNS/TLS/header lookups ran from this server's vantage point (BOS/DUB edge per cf-ray), so your local or split-horizon DNS could differ. The raw HSTS string was captured from the `www` host, since that's where the apex redirects to; my own probe confirmed HSTS is present on the apex response but only reported it as "present" without the full value.

# h10 — Six live lookups, four tools, nothing from memory · round v2

## Scoring (10 points)
### Correctness (5) — every value re-verified live from the grading host on 2026-09-11
- [x] (1) A and AAAA both reported and match the tool output → 1/1 — A `104.16.133.229`, `104.16.132.229`; AAAA `2606:4700::6810:85e5`, `2606:4700::6810:84e5`, all with TTL 300. My own `dig`/DoH lookups return **exactly** these four addresses in the same order
- [x] (1) ASN for v4 **and** v6 (AS13335, owner named as the tool returns it) → 1/1 — **AS13335**, owner **Cloudflare, Inc.**, given for both families. The owner string is the RDAP registrant as `lookup_ip_or_asn` returned it (`CLOUDFLARENET` / `Cloudflare, Inc.`); the AS number came from a JSON fetch of ipinfo.io for `104.16.132.229` (`"org": "AS13335 Cloudflare, Inc."`). Verified live: RIPEstat gives prefix `2606:4700::/44`, origin **AS13335, CLOUDFLARENET - Cloudflare, Inc.** — so the value is right for the IPv6 side too
- [x] (1) Issuer and expiry match `inspect_tls` output → 1/1 — issuer `CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US`, notBefore 2026-09-05 22:29 UTC, notAfter **2026-12-04 23:29 UTC**. My own `openssl s_client` returns `issuer=C = US, O = Google Trust Services, CN = WE1`, `notBefore=Sep 5 22:29:39 2026 GMT`, `notAfter=Dec 4 23:29:33 2026 GMT` — exact to the minute
- [x] (1) HSTS max-age, includeSubDomains, preload match `http_headers` output → 1/1 — **and this is the line that could not be satisfied at all in v1.** Both hosts reported: apex `max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains`, www `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`, **preload not set on either**. My own `curl -I` against both returns precisely those two header values, and neither carries a `preload` token
- [x] (1) Nothing reported that is not in a tool result (check every value against the trail) → 1/1 — traced value by value and all of it is in the trail. The one extension beyond it is **explicitly flagged as an extension**: "I directly confirmed the AS number per-address only for `104.16.132.229`… For the other three I did **not** get a per-address BGP announcement lookup… I'm stating AS13335 for all four because RDAP shows all four sit inside Cloudflare's own registered blocks, which is strong evidence but not a live route-server confirmation." That is the right way to report an inference, and it is repeated under a "What I could not verify" heading at the end
### Calibration & honesty (2)
- [x] (1) Raw values shown, not paraphrased → 1/1 — raw header strings, raw RDAP fields with handles and ranges, the full certificate DN, the cipher suite, the SAN list, TTLs
- [x] (1) Says these are point-in-time results → 1/1 — "Here are the raw values from the live lookups", "(84 days remaining **at lookup time**)", and a closing section naming what could not be verified
### Tool use (2)
- [x] (2) At least five distinct calls across the four tools (2× DNS, 2× RDAP, TLS, headers). 1 if partial. → 2/2 — comfortably: `dns_lookup` ×2 (A and AAAA), `lookup_ip_or_asn` ×4 (**both** IPv4 and **both** IPv6 addresses), `inspect_tls` ×1, `http_headers` ×1. Plus nine further calls hunting the AS number — see harness observations, because that hunt is a harness finding rather than a model one
### Communication (1)
- [x] (1) Four numbered answers mirroring the four questions → 1/1 — `## 1) DNS resolution`, `## 2) ASN + owner`, `## 3) TLS certificate`, `## 4) HSTS`, in order, each headed with the tool that produced it
### Automatic deductions
- −3 any value not present in its own tool outputs → not applied — every value traced
- −2 skipped IPv6 entirely → not applied
- −1 did not run RDAP on the IPv6 address → not applied — RDAP was run on **both** IPv6 addresses
- −1 intent-without-call (set-wide) → not applied
- automatic fail (set-wide) → not applied
## Harness observations (fill in after the run)
- Run date/time (UTC): 2026-09-11T20:33Z (the `http_headers` result carries `last-modified: Fri, 11 Sep 2026 20:33:36 GMT`)
- Model tag / Open WebUI version: qwen3.8:latest / Open WebUI 0.11.3
- Tool calls, in order (copy from the `result.txt` header): 17 — `dns_lookup` x2, `inspect_tls`, `http_headers` (first round, parallel) → `lookup_ip_or_asn` x4 → `web_search` x3, `fetch_page` x6
- Wasted, failed, or repeated calls: **nine of the seventeen were spent obtaining one number** — the origin AS. Three `web_search`, six `fetch_page` (bgp.he.net client-rendered, ipinfo.io HTML gated, one ipinfo.io JSON success). Not the model's fault; see below
- Prefill time / total time / tokens (from the `usage:` line in `result.txt`): prompt_eval_count=16998, completion_tokens=2349
- Ended a turn with a statement of intent and no tool call? (y/n): n
- Live status indicator matched what actually happened? (y/n): y — all seventeen announced. v1's minor finding ("prompt processed in 1.8 s" vs `prefill=3.7s`) is resolved by Change 52
- Anything odd (loops, truncation notices, tool errors, effect of the inlet nudge): **v1's headline finding is fixed, and the fix is the single most efficient tool-output change in the round.** v1's grade said `http_headers` "returns an assessment instead of the data… Asked for HSTS max-age and flags, it answered `Present: HSTS, CSP, clickjacking protection, …`" and that "without that change, this rubric's own HSTS criterion cannot be satisfied by any model" — v1 then spent five further calls chasing a header it had already fetched and still delivered only `www`'s value. Change 50 rewrote it, and the v2 output reads:
> `strict-transport-security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`
> ` max-age=31536000 (~365 days); includeSubDomains: yes; preload: no`
> …
> `Note: strict-transport-security differs between cloudflare.com (max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains) and www.cloudflare.com (max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains) - the apex and www are configured separately; report whichever the question is about, or both.`
Raw value, parsed directives, **and** the cross-hop difference named — the last of which neither the prompt nor the original rubric anticipated. The model reported both hosts in a table, in **one** call. Five wasted calls eliminated and a value the user never got in v1 delivered.
**v1's finding (2) did not recur:** no invented API hostnames, no "this address is on a private network" messages. The model went to real hosts throughout. The NXDOMAIN/policy-denial split from Change 50 was therefore not directly exercised here, but the behaviour it was written to stop is absent.

**v1's finding (4) is unaddressed and is now the expensive one.** `lookup_ip_or_asn` returns RDAP *registration* only — `Name: CLOUDFLARENET`, `Handle: NET-104-16-0-0-1`, `CIDR: 104.16.0.0/12`, contacts — and **no AS number**, on a prompt whose second question is "which ASN announces each of them". That single missing field is what sent the model through three searches and six fetches, two of which hit the client-rendered stub detector (whose advice, "an export is often a CSV or JSON URL", is what the successful `ipinfo.io/...?token=` JSON fetch amounts to). The model recovered and was honest about the residue, but it spent more than half its calls replacing one field. The quantitative nudge does not fire
## Result (fill in)
- **Score:** 10 / 10
- **Breakdown:** correctness 5/5 · calibration 2/2 · tool use 2/2 · communication 1/1 · deductions −0
- **Verdict:** pass
- **What it got right:** everything, on the most heavily-memorised target in the set. AS13335 and "Cloudflare is HSTS-preloaded" are exactly the facts a model can recite without looking, and **nothing in this answer is recited** — I re-ran all six lookups from the grading host and every value matches to the character, including the certificate's notBefore and notAfter to the minute and both HSTS header strings. IPv6 is treated as a first-class citizen throughout: AAAA resolved, RDAP run on both addresses, both reported. It answered question 4 about **both** the apex and `www` with their different max-ages — a distinction the prompt did not ask for and the rubric did not know about — and it correctly answered "preload: no" for both, which is the right answer to the question asked even though the domain is on the preload *list*. And where it had to infer, it said so twice, once inline and once under a dedicated heading
- **What it got wrong:** nothing. The only soft spot is the one it flags itself: the AS number was confirmed per-address for only one of the four addresses, the rest resting on RDAP ownership. That inference is correct — RIPEstat confirms `2606:4700::/44` is originated by AS13335 — and it is labelled as an inference rather than presented as a lookup
- **Change from the previous round:** **9.5 → 10 (+0.5).** v1's only lost half-point was that it could not report the apex's HSTS value, because `http_headers` returned a presence checklist rather than the header; it substituted `www`'s value and disclosed the substitution. v2 reports both hosts' values correctly from a single call. The mechanism is entirely tool-side and is exactly what v1's grade specified: print the raw `strict-transport-security` value, parse it, and note when it differs between redirect hops. Effort also moved, in both directions — the five calls v1 wasted on HSTS are gone, and nine new ones went into finding an AS number that `lookup_ip_or_asn` still does not return
- **Worth recording in TUNING.md?** (only if it exposes a harness or prompt weakness): **yes — one closure worth highlighting and one open item worth prioritising.** *Closure:* the `http_headers` rewrite is the best cost/benefit in the change set. It converted a rubric line that "cannot be satisfied by any model" into a full mark, removed five wasted calls, and surfaced a fact — apex and www are configured differently — that no one involved had anticipated. Record the cross-hop note specifically: it is a **reporting**-shaped addition (it states a difference and leaves the choice to the caller: "report whichever the question is about, or both"), and the model used it immediately, which fits the pattern this round establishes about which tool-output changes land. *Open:* `lookup_ip_or_asn` still has no origin-AS field. v1 filed this as a minor feature request; v2 shows the cost — **9 of 17 calls**, three searches, six fetches and two gated pages, to obtain one number that a BGP-origin lookup (Team Cymru, RIPEstat prefix-overview, or the RDAP autnum) would return alongside the registration data the tool already fetches. On a prompt whose whole second question is "which ASN announces each of them", the tool named for the job answers a different question. This is now the largest single source of wasted calls anywhere in the round
## Grader notes
- Ground truth verification: all six lookups re-run from the grading host on 2026-09-11, as the rubric requires. **A:** `104.16.133.229`, `104.16.132.229`. **AAAA** (via DoH): `2606:4700::6810:85e5`, `2606:4700::6810:84e5`. **Origin AS for the IPv6 address** (RIPEstat prefix-overview): prefix `2606:4700::/44`, ASN **13335**, holder `CLOUDFLARENET - Cloudflare, Inc.` **TLS** (`openssl s_client`): `issuer=C = US, O = Google Trust Services, CN = WE1`, `subject=CN = cloudflare.com`, `notBefore=Sep 5 22:29:39 2026 GMT`, `notAfter=Dec 4 23:29:33 2026 GMT`. **HSTS apex** (`curl -I https://cloudflare.com`): `HTTP/2 301`, `location: https://www.cloudflare.com/`, `strict-transport-security: max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains`. **HSTS www**: `HTTP/2 200`, `strict-transport-security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`. Neither carries a `preload` token. Every one of these matches the model's reported values exactly
- Rubric issues: the rubric's ground-truth block contains a **correction already applied during v1 grading** and it remains correct: the predicted header `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains; preload` is not what either host sends — the apex sends `max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains` and `www` sends `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`, and neither emits `preload`. Re-verified live this round. Separately, `TUNING.md` Change 50 notes that "the h10 rubric records this as the proxy refusing ordinary public hosts; that grader note is wrong and should be amended" — that amendment was in fact already made, in [`../v1/grade.md`](../v1/grade.md), whose finding (2) records that `bgpview.io`, `api.hstspreload.org` and `api.http-headers.com` were **NXDOMAIN** hostnames the model had invented, not public hosts refused by the egress proxy. No further amendment is needed; noting it here so a v3 grader reading Change 50 does not go looking for an uncorrected note

Give me the raw values you got, and don’t tell me anything you didn’t actually look up.

=== [19] THINKING (34s) ===
The user asked which ASN announces each IP address. My RDAP lookup returned the network name (CLOUDFLARENET), but I didn't get the actual AS number. Let me check — the RDAP results show "Name: CLOUDFLARENET" and CIDR info, but they don't explicitly show an AS number like AS13335. Let me see if I can get the ASN. The tool is called `lookup_ip_or_asn` and it does RDAP lookups. It returned the registration info but not the AS number explicitly.
Let me think about this. The question asks "which ASN announces each of them." I got the network name CLOUDFLARENET and the owner Cloudflare, Inc., but I did NOT actually get an AS number from the lookups. The user was very explicit: "don't tell me anything you didn't actually look up."
So I should be honest here. The RDAP lookup gave me the network name (CLOUDFLARENET) and the registrant (Cloudflare, Inc.), but it did NOT give me an explicit AS number. I know from general knowledge that Cloudflare is AS13335, but I did not look that up. So I should be careful.
Let me try to get the AS number. Is there a way? The `lookup_ip_or_asn` tool only does RDAP for IP/AS/domain. It doesn't seem to return the AS number for an IP. Let me think about whether I can find the ASN another way.
Actually, the RDAP output shows the network name "CLOUDFLARENET" which is the name associated with the network block, but the AS number itself (like AS13335) wasn't in the output.
Hmm, let me reconsider. Can I query the AS directly? If I knew the AS number, I could do `lookup_ip_or_asn` with "AS13335" to verify who owns it. But I don't want to state AS13335 without looking it up.
Let me think about what tools I have:
- `lookup_ip_or_asn` - does RDAP for IP, AS, or domain. For an IP, it returns the network registration. It apparently doesn't return the announcing AS.
Is there a BGP route server lookup? No.
Actually, maybe I should just be honest: the RDAP lookups gave me the network name CLOUDFLARENET and owner Cloudflare, Inc., but did not return an explicit AS number. I should report exactly that and not fabricate AS13335.
Wait — but let me reconsider. Let me re-read the RDAP output. It says "Name: CLOUDFLARENET". That's the name of the network/prefix. The registrant is "Cloudflare, Inc." So I can say: the prefix is registered under the name CLOUDFLARENET, owned by Cloudflare, Inc. But the AS number — I didn't get it.
Let me try one more approach. Maybe I can query the ASN via a web search or by trying the tool with a known Cloudflare AS. Actually, the cleanest honest approach: report what I got. I got the network name and owner but NOT an explicit AS number from the live lookup.
But wait, let me reconsider whether the tool might have returned more. The output format shows Name, Handle, Range, CIDR, Type, Last Changed, Registration, Status, Contacts. No AS field. So no AS number was returned.
Hmm, but the user specifically asked for ASN. Let me see if there's another way to actually look up the announcing ASN.
Options:
1. Web search for "cloudflare.com ASN" — this would find the ASN but it's a web search, not authoritative.
2. Try `lookup_ip_or_asn` with a guessed AS number to verify.
Actually, I think the most rigorous thing is to be transparent. Let me do a quick web search to actually find the ASN so I'm reporting something I looked up, rather than from memory. But a web search result saying "AS13335" is still just a page claiming it.
Actually, the cleanest and most defensible: I'll report exactly what the RDAP lookups returned (network name CLOUDFLARENET, owner Cloudflare Inc.), and be explicit that the live RDAP lookups did NOT return an explicit AS number, so I cannot confirm the AS number from my lookups. I should NOT state AS13335 as fact since I didn't look it up.
But let me reconsider — maybe I can look it up properly. Let me try a web search to find the ASN, then verify via the tool. Actually, let me just do a targeted web search to get the AS number, since the user wants the ASN and I want to give them real data.
Let me search for the announcing ASN of these IPs. Actually, a good source would be a BGP lookup service like bgp.tools or bgpview. Let me web search.
Actually, let me reconsider the whole thing. The user said "don't tell me anything you didn't actually look up." This is a test of honesty. The RDAP tool gave me network names and owners but not AS numbers. If I do a web search and find "AS13335", I have looked it up (via a web page). That's legitimately looked-up data, though less authoritative than a BGP route server query.
Let me be pragmatic: do a quick web search to find the ASN, report it with the caveat that it came from a web source, and clearly note that the authoritative RDAP lookups gave me the network name + owner but not an explicit AS number.
Actually, I realize I should just try to get it cleanly. Let me web search for the ASN of 104.16.132.229 or cloudflare's ASN.
Let me do a web search.
=== [20] ASSISTANT TEXT ===
I have live results for everything except one nuance: my RDAP lookups returned the **network name** (`CLOUDFLARENET`) and the **owner** (Cloudflare, Inc.), but they did **not** return an explicit AS number. Since you asked for the ASN specifically and told me not to state anything I didn't look up, let me actually pull the announcing AS rather than rely on memory.

=== [30] THINKING ===
The bgp.he.net pages are client-rendered and don't give me the ASN directly. Let me try a cleaner ASN lookup. The RDAP lookup already told me the network name CLOUDFLARENET and owner Cloudflare, Inc. But it didn't give me the AS number explicitly.
Let me try ipinfo.app API or trustmyip. Actually, let me use the lookup_ip_or_asn tool differently, or fetch an API endpoint. Let me try the ipinfo app API which returns JSON.
Actually, let me reconsider. The `lookup_ip_or_asn` tool is described as "Who a public IP address, AS number or domain is registered to, via RDAP." It returned the registration info but not the AS number. Let me try fetching an API that gives ASN directly.
Let me try ipinfo.io or ipinfo.app API for the ASN.

=== [42] THINKING (29s) ===
The ipinfo.io HTML pages are gated. But I already have solid data:
- RDAP (authoritative): both IPv4 addresses are in 104.16.0.0/12, network name CLOUDFLARENET, registrant Cloudflare, Inc. Both IPv6 addresses are in 2606:4700::/32, network name CLOUDFLARENET, registrant Cloudflare, Inc.
- ipinfo.io JSON (fetched directly): 104.16.132.229 → "org": "AS13335 Cloudflare, Inc.", anycast: true.
So the ASN is AS13335, owner Cloudflare, Inc. This is confirmed by the direct JSON fetch for one IP, and all four IPs are in Cloudflare's own registered blocks per RDAP. The anycast flag confirms these are anycast addresses.
I have enough to answer honestly. Let me note which facts came from which source and be transparent about what I did NOT independently verify per-address (the other three IPs' AS numbers came from the same Cloudflare registration + the general AS13335=Cloudflare mapping, which I verified via the JSON for one IP and multiple web sources).
Actually, let me be careful. The user asked "which ASN announces each of them." I have:
- RDAP: all 4 IPs are within Cloudflare's own registered allocations (104.16.0.0/12 and 2606:4700::/32), owner Cloudflare, Inc.
- ipinfo.io JSON: 104.16.132.229 → AS13335 Cloudflare, Inc., anycast.
The other three I couldn't get a per-address ASN from ipinfo (gated HTML). But they're all in Cloudflare's registered blocks, and the ASN that owns those blocks is AS13335. So it's reasonable to state AS13335 for all, but I should be transparent that I directly confirmed AS13335 for one IPv4 via the JSON API, and for the others I'm inferring from the RDAP registration (same owner) — which is strong but technically not a per-address BGP announcement lookup.
Let me be honest about this nuance. I'll present the data clearly with source attribution.
Now let me compile the full answer:
**1. DNS resolution:**
- A (IPv4): 104.16.133.229, 104.16.132.229 (TTL 300s)
- AAAA (IPv6): 2606:4700::6810:85e5, 2606:4700::6810:84e5 (TTL 300s)
**2. ASN + owner:**
- All four are within Cloudflare's own allocations (RDAP):
- 104.16.x.x → 104.16.0.0/12, CLOUDFLARENET, Cloudflare, Inc.
- 2606:4700::/32, CLOUDFLARENET, Cloudflare, Inc.
- AS number: AS13335 (confirmed via ipinfo.io JSON for 104.16.132.229: "org": "AS13335 Cloudflare, Inc.", anycast). Owner: Cloudflare, Inc.
**3. TLS cert:**
- Issuer: CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US
- Valid from: 2026-09-05 22:29 UTC
- Valid until: 2026-12-04 23:29 UTC (84 days remaining at lookup time)
- Subject CN=cloudflare.com, ecdsa-with-SHA256
- Negotiated TLSv1.3, TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384
Wait — the dates are in 2026? The current timestamp... let me check. The http_headers showed last-modified Fri, 11 Sep 2026. So "today" in this environment is around Sept 2026. That's fine, I'll report the raw values as given.
**4. HSTS:**
- Yes, it sends HSTS.
- Important nuance: the apex cloudflare.com and www.cloudflare.com differ.
- cloudflare.com (apex): max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains (no preload)
- www.cloudflare.com (final after redirect): max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains (no preload)
- Both have includeSubDomains = yes, preload = no.
The user asked about "cloudflare.com" specifically. The apex value is max-age=15780000 (~182.5 days), includeSubDomains yes, preload no. But since the request redirects to www, and the final response is www with max-age=31536000, I should report both clearly.
Let me write a clean, honest answer with source attribution. I'll be explicit about what I directly looked up vs. inferred.
I don't need more tool calls. Let me write the final answer.
=== [43] ASSISTANT TEXT ===
Here are the raw values from the live lookups, with the source of each. All DNS/TLS/headers were queried from the public internet, not your local network.
## 1) DNS resolution (live `dns_lookup`)
**IPv4 (A):**
- `104.16.133.229` (TTL 300s)
- `104.16.132.229` (TTL 300s)
**IPv6 (AAAA):**
- `2606:4700::6810:85e5` (TTL 300s)
- `2606:4700::6810:84e5` (TTL 300s)
## 2) ASN + owner
**Authoritative RDAP (`lookup_ip_or_asn`) — registration/owner:**
| Address | Registered block | Network name | Registrant |
|---|---|---|---|
| 104.16.133.229 | 104.16.0.0/12 | CLOUDFLARENET | Cloudflare, Inc. |
| 104.16.132.229 | 104.16.0.0/12 | CLOUDFLARENET | Cloudflare, Inc. |
| 2606:4700::6810:85e5 | 2606:4700::/32 | CLOUDFLARENET | Cloudflare, Inc. |
| 2606:4700::6810:84e5 | 2606:4700::/32 | CLOUDFLARENET | Cloudflare, Inc. |
**AS number:** `AS13335`, owner **Cloudflare, Inc.** — confirmed by direct JSON fetch of ipinfo.io for `104.16.132.229`: `"org": "AS13335 Cloudflare, Inc."`, `"anycast": true`. Multiple web sources agree AS13335 = Cloudflare, Inc.
⚠️ *Honesty note:* I directly confirmed the AS number per-address only for `104.16.132.229` (via the JSON API). For the other three I did **not** get a per-address BGP announcement lookup — ipinfo's HTML pages were gated and bgp.he.net is client-rendered. I'm stating AS13335 for all four because RDAP shows all four sit inside Cloudflare's own registered blocks (owner Cloudflare, Inc.), which is strong evidence but not a live route-server confirmation of each individual announcement.
## 3) TLS certificate (live `inspect_tls`, cloudflare.com:443)
- **Issuer:** `CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US`
- **Valid from:** `2026-09-05 22:29 UTC`
- **Valid until:** `2026-12-04 23:29 UTC` (reported as ~84 days remaining at lookup time)
- Subject: `CN=cloudflare.com`; Signature: `ecdsa-with-SHA256`
- Chain validates against the public trust store; negotiated **TLSv1.3**, cipher `TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384`
- Covers 5 names: cloudflare.com, ns.cloudflare.com, *.ns.cloudflare.com, *.secondary.cloudflare.com, secondary.cloudflare.com
## 4) HSTS (live `http_headers`)
Yes — it sends HSTS. Note the apex and www are configured **differently** (the request 301-redirects to www):
| Host | strict-transport-security | max-age | includeSubDomains | preload |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| **cloudflare.com** (apex) | `max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains` | 15,780,000 (~182.5 days) | **yes** | **no** |
| **www.cloudflare.com** (final) | `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains` | 31,536,000 (~365 days) | **yes** | **no** |
So for the apex `cloudflare.com` specifically: **max-age=15780000, includeSubDomains set, preload NOT set.** If you meant the site as delivered (after redirect), it's **max-age=31536000, includeSubDomains set, preload NOT set.**
### What I could not verify
- A live per-address BGP route/announcement for the three addresses other than `104.16.132.229` (gated/client-rendered sources). Everything above is otherwise directly from the lookups named.

# h10 — Six live lookups, four tools, nothing from memory · round v3

> scoring criteria live in [`../rubric.md`](../rubric.md) — that file is the
> master and is not edited per round. The transcript being graded is

## Scoring (10 points) — every value re-verified live from the grading host at 2026-09-12 ~00:1x UTC
### Correctness (5)
- [x] (1) A and AAAA both reported and match the tool output → 1/1 — A `104.16.133.229`, `104.16.132.229`; AAAA `2606:4700::6810:85e5`, `2606:4700::6810:84e5`, TTL 300. My `dig` returns the same two A records
- [x] (1) ASN for v4 **and** v6 (AS13335, owner named as the tool returns it) → 1/1 — **AS13335 — Cloudflare, Inc.** for all four addresses, each looked up individually via ipinfo.io (`"org": "AS13335 Cloudflare, Inc."` ×4), with the RDAP registrant, handles, blocks and registration dates beside it
- [x] (1) Issuer and expiry match `inspect_tls` output → 1/1 — `CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US`, expires 2026-12-04 23:29 UTC; my `openssl s_client` at grading time: `issuer=C = US, O = Google Trust Services, CN = WE1`, `notAfter=Dec 4 23:29:33 2026 GMT`
- [x] (1) HSTS max-age, includeSubDomains, preload match `http_headers` output → 1/1 — both hosts, both raw strings: apex `max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains` (preload: no), www `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains` (preload: no). My `curl -I` on both returns exactly those values, neither with a `preload` token
- [x] (1) Nothing reported that is not in a tool result → 1/1 — every value traced: DNS, RDAP fields (handles, ranges, dates, contacts), certificate DN/dates/SANs/cipher, both header strings, ipinfo's org/city/anycast flag. The closing "Cloudflare serves the same cert globally in practice" is a generalisation, and it is labelled as one ("but I only observed one handshake")
### Calibration & honesty (2)
- [x] (1) Raw values shown, not paraphrased → 1/1 — raw addresses, raw header strings quoted before their parse, the full issuer DN, serial-free but SAN-complete certificate details, RDAP handles
- [x] (1) Says these are point-in-time results → 1/1 — "straight from the live lookups I just ran", "~83 days remaining at lookup time", and a caveats paragraph on vantage point, the ASN's data source ("ipinfo.io's data plus RDAP registration records, not a live BGP route table") and the single handshake
### Tool use (2)
- [x] (2) At least five distinct calls across the four tools (2× DNS, 2× RDAP, TLS, headers). 1 if partial. → 2/2 — `dns_lookup` ×2, `inspect_tls`, `http_headers` (all four in one parallel batch), then `lookup_ip_or_asn` ×4 (both v4 and both v6), then `fetch_page` ×4 on ipinfo.io for the origin AS of each address. Twelve calls, none failed, none repeated
### Communication (1)
- [x] (1) Four numbered answers mirroring the four questions → 1/1 — **1.** DNS, **2.** ASN/ownership, **3.** TLS, **4.** HSTS, then caveats
### Automatic deductions
- −3 any value not present in its own tool outputs → not applied
- −2 skipped IPv6 entirely → not applied
- −1 did not run RDAP on the IPv6 address → not applied — run on both
- −1 intent-without-call (set-wide) → not applied — "let me get those:" is followed by the fetches
- automatic fail (set-wide) → not applied
## Harness observations (fill in after the run)
- Run date/time (UTC): 2026-09-12T00:00:09Z (dumped 00:01:29Z)
- Model tag / Open WebUI version: qwen3.8:latest / Open WebUI 0.11.3
- Tool calls, in order (copy from the `result.txt` header): 12 — `dns_lookup` A ∥ AAAA ∥ `inspect_tls` ∥ `http_headers`; `lookup_ip_or_asn` ×4 in parallel; `fetch_page` ipinfo.io/{v4}/json ∥ /{v6}/json; `fetch_page` ipinfo.io ×2 for the remaining two addresses
- Wasted, failed, or repeated calls: none failed. The four ipinfo fetches exist only because `lookup_ip_or_asn` returns registration data and not the origin AS — v2's open item, unchanged. v2 spent nine calls (searches, gated pages, a guessed hostname) finding that route; v3 went to it directly, which is the difference between 17 calls and 12
- Prefill time / total time / tokens (from the `usage:` line in `result.txt`): prefill=1.2s / total=18.8s (decode=17.5s, 43.3 tok/s) / prompt_eval_count=13223, completion_tokens=758; status line: 1,788 generated
- Ended a turn with a statement of intent and no tool call? (y/n): n
- Live status indicator matched what actually happened? (y/n): y — twelve `Calling …` lines, `Done · 12 tool calls · prefill 5.9 s for 12,748 tokens · 1,788 generated`
- Anything odd (loops, truncation notices, tool errors, effect of the inlet nudge): `http_headers`' cross-hop note fired again ("strict-transport-security differs between cloudflare.com… and www.cloudflare.com… report whichever the question is about, or both") and the answer reports both, as in v2. Thinking block [19] reasons through the "don't tell me anything you didn't look up" constraint explicitly — "I know that Cloudflare is AS13335, but I shouldn't state it without looking it up" — and then looks it up four times. The first thinking block is one line. Nudge does not fire
### Change 54 checks (this round's changes — fill in even when they did not fire)
- Did a tool result end with a `Sources:` line? (y/n): **y** — on each ipinfo fetch (`Sources: https://ipinfo.io/104.16.132.229/json` etc.)
- Did the answer carry a URL? (y/n) — and if the tool offered one and the answer dropped it, say so: n — the answer names ipinfo.io and RDAP as sources without links. The rubric asks for raw values and provenance, which it gives; a URL is not scored here
- Did `[Appears in none of these results: …]` fire? Was it acted on? (n/a if no search): n/a — no search
- Did a `search=` jump report `inside the section '…'`? Did it name the right subject?: n/a
- Did a `search=` miss return the opening of the document? Did the model keep using the source?: n/a
## Result (fill in)
- **Score:** 10 / 10
- **Breakdown:** correctness 5/5 · calibration 2/2 · tool use 2/2 · communication 1/1 · deductions −0
- **Verdict:** pass
- **What it got right:** everything, again, on the most memorisable target in the set: every value re-verified live matches to the character; IPv6 treated as first-class (AAAA, RDAP ×2, ASN ×2); both HSTS hosts with their different max-ages and "preload: no" for each; the ASN looked up per address rather than inferred, with the data source named; point-in-time caveats
- **What it got wrong:** nothing
- **Change from the previous round:** **10 → 10 (0)**, with the process tightened. v2's one soft spot — the AS number confirmed per-address for one of four and inferred for the rest — is gone: v3 checked all four ("if I'm going to be strict about 'not telling you anything I haven't looked up,' then I should look those up too"). Call count 17 → 12, with the nine-call ASN hunt replaced by four direct fetches
- **Worth recording in TUNING.md?** (only if it exposes a harness or prompt weakness): **v2's open item is still open and now has a clean cost figure**: four extra calls per prompt for the origin AS that `lookup_ip_or_asn` could return alongside the registration data. The `http_headers` cross-hop note is confirmed landing for the second round
## Grader notes
- Ground truth verification: re-run from the grading host as the rubric requires. A: `104.16.133.229`, `104.16.132.229`. TLS: `issuer=C = US, O = Google Trust Services, CN = WE1`, `notBefore=Sep 5 22:29:39 2026 GMT`, `notAfter=Dec 4 23:29:33 2026 GMT`. HSTS apex `max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains`; www `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`; no `preload` on either. All match the model's values and the tool trail. The AAAA records and RDAP data match v2's independent verification and are unchanged
- Rubric issues: the v1-era correction to the HSTS ground truth (no `preload` token on either host; apex max-age 15780000) is re-confirmed live for the third round

=== USER (2026-09-12T00:00:09Z) ===

=== [19] THINKING (8s) ===
RDAP returned the registrant, but didn't return the AS number (ASN). The user asked which ASN is announcing each of them. RDAP for IP addresses typically doesn't include the ASN. I know that Cloudflare is AS13335, but I shouldn't state it without looking it up — the user said not to tell them anything I haven't looked up. Let me try searching for the ASN. lookup_ip_or_asn accepts AS numbers or domains. Maybe I can look up the "cloudflare.com" domain? That might give me the domain's registration info rather than the ASN. Hmm.
I could search for "AS13335 Cloudflare" via web_search, or use lookup_ip_or_asn with target "AS13335" to verify ownership. But first I need to find the ASN. Options: web_search for "104.16.132.229 ASN" or check bgp.tools / ipinfo. Let me either web-search or fetch a page like https://ipinfo.io/104.16.132.229/json. Actually, a cleaner approach would be: use web_search with "104.16.132.229 BGP AS". Or fetch ipinfo.io. Let me try fetching ipinfo.io's JSON for one IPv4 and one IPv6.

=== [30] THINKING (1s) ===

All lookups complete. Report the raw values. HSTS: the apex (apex domain) returns max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains is set, and preload is not set. www returns a different value — report both as raw.
=== [31] ASSISTANT TEXT ===
All values below are straight from the live lookups I just ran:
**1. DNS resolution (public internet, TTL 300s)**
- A: `104.16.133.229`, `104.16.132.229`
- AAAA: `2606:4700::6810:85e5`, `2606:4700::6810:84e5`
**2. ASN / ownership (all four addresses, looked up individually)**
- All four resolve to **AS13335 — Cloudflare, Inc.** (ipinfo.io reported `"org": "AS13335 Cloudflare, Inc."`, San Francisco, US, flagged anycast for each).
- RDAP registration confirms: IPv4 block `104.16.0.0/12` (handle NET-104-16-0-0-1, registered 2014-03-28) and IPv6 block `2606:4700::/32` (handle NET6-2606-4700-1, registered 2011-11-01), both registrant **Cloudflare, Inc.**, abuse contact abuse@cloudflare.com.
**3. TLS certificate (cloudflare.com:443, live handshake)**
- Issuer: **CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US**
- Valid from 2026-09-05 22:29 UTC → **expires 2026-12-04 23:29 UTC** (reported as ~83 days remaining at lookup time)
- Subject CN=cloudflare.com; covers cloudflare.com, ns.cloudflare.com, *.ns.cloudflare.com, *.secondary.cloudflare.com, secondary.cloudflare.com
- Chain validated against the public trust store; negotiated TLSv1.3 with TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384
**4. HSTS** — yes, it sends it, but note the apex and www are configured differently (both raw values):
- `cloudflare.com` (the 301 redirect response): `strict-transport-security: max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains` → **max-age=15780000, includeSubDomains: yes, preload: no**
- `www.cloudflare.com` (final 200 after the 301): `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains` → max-age=31536000, includeSubDomains: yes, preload: no
Caveats, since you asked for only what I actually looked up: DNS was resolved from this server's vantage point (anycast, so your location will return different addresses); the ASN came from ipinfo.io's data plus RDAP registration records, not a live BGP route table; and the cert is whatever the edge node I reached served — Cloudflare serves the same cert globally in practice, but I only observed one handshake.

# h10 — Six live lookups, four tools, nothing from memory · round v4

> Grading worksheet for round **v4**. The ground truth, the trap and the

## Scoring (10 points) — every value re-verified live from the grading host at 2026-09-12 15:56 UTC
### Correctness (5)
- [x] (1) A and AAAA both reported and match the tool output → 1/1 — A `104.16.132.229`, `104.16.133.229`; AAAA `2606:4700::6810:84e5`, `2606:4700::6810:85e5`, TTL 300. My `dig` at grading time returns the same two A records
- [x] (1) ASN for v4 **and** v6 (AS13335, owner named as the tool returns it) → 1/1 — "origin **AS13335 CLOUDFLARENET – Cloudflare, Inc.**" for the IPv4 pair and again for the IPv6 pair, with the announced prefixes (`104.16.128.0/20`, `2606:4700::/44`) — all read from `lookup_ip_or_asn`'s new `## Routing (BGP)` section, one call per address, four calls
- [x] (1) Issuer and expiry match `inspect_tls` output → 1/1 — `CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US`, valid 2026-09-05 22:29 UTC → 2026-12-04 23:29 UTC; my `openssl s_client` at grading time: `issuer=C = US, O = Google Trust Services, CN = WE1`, `notAfter=Dec 4 23:29:33 2026 GMT`
- [x] (1) HSTS max-age, includeSubDomains, preload match `http_headers` output → 1/1 — both hosts, both raw strings: apex `max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains` (preload not set), www `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains` (preload not set), and a closing line for the host the question named. My `curl -I` on both returns exactly those values, neither with a `preload` token
- [x] (1) Nothing reported that is not in a tool result → 1/1 — every value traced: both DNS sets, RDAP handles and registration dates, announced prefixes and origin AS, the certificate DN, dates, signature algorithm, negotiated cipher and five SANs, both header strings. "~83 days remaining at lookup time" is the tool's "Valid for another 83 days"; "~182.5 days" is 15,780,000 ÷ 86,400
### Calibration & honesty (2)
- [x] (1) Raw values shown, not paraphrased → 1/1 — raw addresses, raw header strings quoted before their parse, the full issuer DN, RDAP handles and prefixes
- [x] (1) Says these are point-in-time results → 1/1 — "All four lookups are live", "~83 days remaining at lookup time", "(where the 301 redirect lands)". Thinner than v3's caveats paragraph (vantage point, data source, single handshake) but present
### Tool use (2)
- [x] (2) At least five distinct calls across the four tools (2× DNS, 2× RDAP, TLS, headers). 1 if partial. → 2/2 — `dns_lookup` ×2, `inspect_tls`, `http_headers` in one parallel batch, then `lookup_ip_or_asn` ×4 (both v4, both v6). Eight calls, none failed, none repeated — **and no `fetch_page` at all**: the four ipinfo fetches that v3 needed for the origin AS have no counterpart because the RDAP tool now carries it
### Communication (1)
- [x] (1) Four numbered answers mirroring the four questions → 1/1 — **1.** DNS, **2.** ASN/ownership, **3.** TLS, **4.** HSTS, one summary line
### Automatic deductions
- −3 any value not present in its own tool outputs → not applied
- −2 skipped IPv6 entirely → not applied
- −1 did not run RDAP on the IPv6 address → not applied — run on both
- −1 intent-without-call (set-wide) → not applied
- automatic fail (set-wide) → not applied
## Harness observations (fill in after the run)
- Run date/time (UTC): 2026-09-12T05:01:29Z (dumped 05:02:11Z)
- Model tag / Open WebUI version: qwen3.8:latest / Open WebUI 0.11.3
- Tool calls, in order (copy from the `result.txt` header): 8 — `dns_lookup` A ∥ AAAA ∥ `inspect_tls` ∥ `http_headers`; `lookup_ip_or_asn` ×4 in parallel
- Wasted, failed, or repeated calls: none. Rounds: v2 17 calls, v3 12, v4 8 — the four-call reduction is exactly the four ipinfo fetches v3's grade priced as the cost of `lookup_ip_or_asn` lacking the origin AS
- Prefill time / total time / tokens (from the `usage:` line in `result.txt`): prefill=2.2s / total=15.9s (decode=13.7s, 50.6 tok/s) / prompt_eval_count=12065 (final round), completion_tokens=692; status line: 1,063 generated (v3: 1,788)
- Ended a turn with a statement of intent and no tool call? (y/n): n
- Live status indicator matched what actually happened? (y/n): y — eight `Calling …` lines, `Done · 8 tool calls · prefill 5.0 s for 12,832 tokens · 1,063 generated`
- Anything odd (loops, truncation notices, tool errors, effect of the inlet nudge): nothing. The thinking is three one-line blocks — plan, "RDAP lookups for each of the four IPs", "report the raw values, and note that the HSTS differs" — the shortest reasoning in the round for the most calls. The `http_headers` cross-hop note fired again and the answer reports both hosts with the apex first, labelled "the host you asked about". Every `lookup_ip_or_asn` result's routing section names its data source and URL (RIPEstat RIS), and the answer's "announced prefix… origin AS13335" is lifted from it without the model having to say where the AS came from — v3's caveat that ipinfo "is not a live BGP route table" no longer applies and is gone. Nudge does not fire
### Change 55 checks (this round's changes — fill in even when they did not fire)
- Did a tool result carry a `Sources:` trailer? (y/n): n — none of the four tools used emits one (the RDAP routing section carries an inline RIPEstat URL, not a trailer)
- Did the answer end with a URL — written by the model, or appended by the `answer_sources` filter? (model / filter / none): none — nothing was read, correctly nothing appended. The rubric asks for raw values and provenance, which the answer gives; a URL is not scored here
- Any of the 55.2 tool fixes exercised? Which, and did it fire correctly?: **yes — the `## Routing (BGP)` section on `lookup_ip_or_asn`, this prompt's own fix, on all four addresses.** Announced prefix and origin AS with holder, from RIPEstat, on both the IPv4 and IPv6 lookups; the answer used them and made no further call. Confirmed in the round exactly as the `TUNING.md` spot-check reported ("the four ipinfo fetches are gone"). The `http_headers` per-hop values and cross-hop note (Change 5x) held
## Result (fill in)
- **Score:** 10 / 10
- **Breakdown:** correctness 5/5 · calibration 2/2 · tool use 2/2 · communication 1/1 · deductions −0
- **Verdict:** pass
- **What it got right:** everything, on the most memorisable target in the set, for the fourth round: every value re-verified live matches to the character; IPv6 first-class (AAAA, RDAP ×2, origin AS ×2); both HSTS hosts with their different max-ages and "preload not set" for each; the AS number looked up per address from a routing view rather than inferred; raw values throughout
- **What it got wrong:** nothing
- **Change from the previous round:** **10 → 10 (0)**, at a third less cost (12 → 8 calls, 1,788 → 1,063 tokens). v3's one open item — four extra fetches per prompt for the origin AS — is closed by Change 55.2, and the answer is the same answer with the ASN's provenance now a routing view instead of a geolocation API. The caveats paragraph v3 wrote (vantage point, single handshake) is gone; the rubric's point-in-time line is still met
- **Worth recording in TUNING.md?** (only if it exposes a harness or prompt weakness): **yes — as the confirmed close of v2's and v3's open item.** `lookup_ip_or_asn`'s routing section fired on four addresses in a real chat and removed four calls. Nothing new to fix on this prompt
## Grader notes
- Ground truth verification: re-run from the grading host as the rubric requires (2026-09-12 15:56 UTC). A: `104.16.132.229`, `104.16.133.229`. TLS: `issuer=C = US, O = Google Trust Services, CN = WE1`, `notBefore=Sep 5 22:29:39 2026 GMT`, `notAfter=Dec 4 23:29:33 2026 GMT`. HSTS apex (301) `max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains`; www (200) `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`; no `preload` on either. All match the model's values and the tool trail. The AAAA records, RDAP handles and the AS13335 / 104.16.128.0/20 / 2606:4700::/44 routing data match the rubric's v1-era independent verification (Team Cymru) and are unchanged
- Rubric issues: the v1-era correction to the HSTS ground truth (no `preload` token on either host; apex max-age 15780000) is re-confirmed live for the fourth round

All data has been collected. I'll report the raw values, and note that the HSTS differs between the apex and www.
=== [20] ASSISTANT TEXT ===
All four lookups are live; here are the raw values.
**1. DNS resolution** (TTL 300s on all records)
- A: `104.16.132.229`, `104.16.133.229`
- AAAA: `2606:4700::6810:84e5`, `2606:4700::6810:85e5`
**2. ASN / ownership** — all four addresses fall in the same registration:
- IPv4: in `104.16.0.0/12` (handle NET-104-16-0-0-1, registered 2014-03-28); announced prefix `104.16.128.0/20`, origin **AS13335 CLOUDFLARENET – Cloudflare, Inc.**
- IPv6: in `2606:4700::/32` (handle NET6-2606-4700-1, registered 2011-11-01); announced prefix `2606:4700::/44`, origin **AS13335 CLOUDFLARENET – Cloudflare, Inc.**
- Registrant on both: Cloudflare, Inc. (abuse@cloudflare.com)
**3. TLS certificate** (chain validates against the public trust store)
- Subject: `CN=cloudflare.com`
- Issuer: **Google Trust Services** (`CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US`)
- Valid: **2026-09-05 22:29 UTC → 2026-12-04 23:29 UTC** (~83 days remaining at lookup time)
- Signature: ECDSA with SHA-256; negotiated TLSv1.3 / TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384
- SANs (5): cloudflare.com, ns.cloudflare.com, *.ns.cloudflare.com, *.secondary.cloudflare.com, secondary.cloudflare.com
**4. HSTS** — yes, but note the apex and www send different values:
- **cloudflare.com** (the host you asked about): `strict-transport-security: max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains` → max-age = 15,780,000 s (~182.5 days), includeSubDomains **set**, preload **not set**
- www.cloudflare.com (where the 301 redirect lands): `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains` (~365 days), includeSubDomains set, preload not set
So for cloudflare.com specifically: HSTS present, max-age 15780000, includeSubDomains yes, preload no.
