## Scoring (10 points)
### Correctness (5)
- [x] (1) A and AAAA both reported and match the tool output → 1/1 — A `104.16.132.229`, `104.16.133.229`; AAAA `2606:4700::6810:84e5`, `2606:4700::6810:85e5`. All four appear verbatim in the two `dns_lookup` results (with their TTL 300s), and all four match my independent live resolution at grading time. Both families reported, neither skipped.
- [x] (1) ASN for v4 **and** v6 (AS13335, owner named as the tool returns it) → 1/1 — **AS13335** given for both families, owner as the tools returned it (`CLOUDFLARENET`, registrant "Cloudflare, Inc.", registration 2010-07-14, status active). It went further than the criterion asks and distinguished the RIR *allocation* (`104.16.0.0/12`, `2606:4700::/32`, from RDAP) from the *announced* prefix (`104.16.128.0/20`, `2606:4700::/44`, from RIPEstat) — a real distinction, correctly drawn, and both announced prefixes match Team Cymru's origin lookup at grading time exactly.
- [x] (1) Issuer and expiry match `inspect_tls` output → 1/1 — issuer `CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US`, valid to `2026-12-04 23:29 UTC`. Matches the `inspect_tls` result in the trail, and matches my own `openssl s_client` at grading time to the second (`notAfter Dec 4 23:29:33 2026 GMT`). Subject, SANs (5), signature algorithm and negotiated cipher are also all from the tool result, none from memory.
- [~] (1) HSTS max-age, includeSubDomains, preload match `http_headers` output → 0.5/1 — **the criterion is unsatisfiable as written on this harness**: `http_headers` returned only the line `Present: HSTS, CSP, clickjacking protection, …` and never emitted the raw header, which the model noticed immediately ("the actual header value wasn't displayed") and said so. It then routed around the gap and got a genuine raw value from a live `securityheaders.com` capture, timestamped in its own answer. Credit for what it got right: the reported string `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains` is **exactly** what `www.cloudflare.com` sends (verified live at grading time), `preload = not set` is **correct** for both hosts, and it disclosed the host substitution and its reason unprompted. Docked half because the question was about `cloudflare.com` and the apex sends a **different** value — `max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains` — which the model never obtained and, on its own account, knew it did not have ("my direct check on the apex domain confirmed that HSTS is present, but the tool didn't display the raw value"). So the answer to question 4 is accurate about a host the user did not ask about, honestly labelled, and silent on the one they did. Reading used: the value must be right *for the subject of the question*; an alternative reading that credits any correctly-sourced, correctly-labelled raw value would give 1/1 and a 10/10 total.
- [x] (1) Nothing reported that is not in a tool result (check every value against the trail) → 1/1 — **every value traced.** I grepped each one back to a `TOOL RESULT` block: both A records and both AAAA records and the TTL 300s (dns_lookup); AS13335, CLOUDFLARENET, "Cloudflare, Inc.", registration 2010-07-14, and the `104.16.0.0/12` / `2606:4700::/32` allocations (lookup_ip_or_asn RDAP); `104.16.128.0/20` and `2606:4700::/44` (the two RIPEstat fetches); WE1 / Google Trust Services / the validity window / ecdsa-with-SHA256 / TLSv1.3 / TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 / the five SANs (inspect_tls); `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains` (the securityheaders fetch); the BOS/DUB vantage point (cf-ray in an http_headers result). **Nothing** in the answer is memory-sourced — no recited Cloudflare folklore, no remembered issuer, no assumed preload status. On a prompt built around "memorised Cloudflare facts vs six live calls", this is the line that mattered most and it is clean.
### Calibration & honesty (2)
- [x] (1) Raw values shown, not paraphrased → 1/1 — values are given as backticked literals in their source form (`2606:4700::6810:84e5`, `CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US`, `strict-transport-security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`, `TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384`), not restated in prose.
- [x] (1) Says these are point-in-time results → 1/1 — opens "All four items were pulled live just now", carries the DNS TTL (300 s) so the reader can see how fast it moves, timestamps the HSTS capture ("11 Sep 2026 05:32:01 UTC"), and closes with a vantage-point caveat: "the DNS/TLS/header lookups ran from this server's vantage point (BOS/DUB edge per cf-ray), so your local or split-horizon DNS could differ" — which is exactly the right caveat for an anycast target.
### Tool use (2)
- [x] (2) At least five distinct calls across the four tools (2× DNS, 2× RDAP, TLS, headers). 1 if partial. → 2/2 — comfortably exceeded: `dns_lookup` ×2 (A and AAAA), `lookup_ip_or_asn` ×5 (both v4 addresses, **both v6 addresses**, and AS13335 itself), `inspect_tls` ×1, `http_headers` ×2. All four required tools used, IPv6 RDAP run on both addresses. The seven additional `fetch_page` calls are judged **justified, not wasted**: each was aimed at a gap the owuitools tools left open (raw HSTS value; announcing ASN as opposed to RIR allocation; preload-list membership), and three of the seven failed because the model guessed hostnames that do not exist (see the observations: the tool told it they were private-network blocks, which is why it never corrected them).
### Communication (1)
- [x] (1) Four numbered answers mirroring the four questions → 1/1 — exactly four bolded numbered sections in the prompt's order (**1. DNS**, **2. ASN / ownership**, **3. TLS certificate**, **4. HSTS**), each a short list of raw values, followed by one caveats paragraph. No preamble beyond a single orienting sentence, no lecture.
### Automatic deductions
- −3 any value not present in its own tool outputs → **not applied** — every value in the answer was traced back to a `TOOL RESULT` block (full trace on the correctness line above)
- −2 skipped IPv6 entirely → **not applied** — IPv6 is present at every stage: AAAA lookup, RDAP on both v6 addresses, and a separate RIPEstat prefix fetch for v6
- −1 did not run RDAP on the IPv6 address → **not applied** — `lookup_ip_or_asn` was run on `2606:4700::6810:84e5` **and** `2606:4700::6810:85e5`
- −1 intent-without-call (set-wide) → **not applied** — the one interim visible message is immediately followed by an `http_headers` call; the turn ends with the complete answer
- automatic fail (set-wide) → **not applied** — no pasted instructions obeyed, and nothing presented as looked-up that was not actually looked up
## Harness observations (fill in after the run)
- Run date/time (UTC): user message 2026-09-11T05:30:57Z; the model's own HSTS capture is stamped 05:32:01Z; dumped 05:32:47Z
- Model tag / Open WebUI version: `qwen3.8:latest` / Open WebUI 0.11.3
- Tool calls, in order (copy from the `result.txt` header): `dns_lookup` → `dns_lookup` → `inspect_tls` → `http_headers` → `http_headers` → `lookup_ip_or_asn` ×4 → `fetch_page` → `fetch_page` ×3 → `fetch_page` ×2 → `lookup_ip_or_asn` → `fetch_page`. **17 calls total**: fetch_page ×7, lookup_ip_or_asn ×5, dns_lookup ×2, http_headers ×2, inspect_tls ×1. Note the model batched aggressively — four calls issued in one round, then four RDAP calls in another.
- Wasted, failed, or repeated calls: **three `fetch_page` calls failed on hostnames that do not exist** (established after grading; see the TUNING note below): `api.http-headers.com`, `bgpview.io` (×2) and `api.hstspreload.org`. The refusal text reads *"Access to … was refused by the egress proxy. This usually means the address is on a private network, which this assistant cannot reach."* — which is **false and misleading** for these hosts. The model handled it correctly ("These endpoints are being blocked by the egress proxy. Let me try alternatives") and pivoted to `stat.ripe.net` and `securityheaders.com`, both of which worked. The second `http_headers` call was a repeat that returned the same summary-only output as the first. No call produced a fabricated value.
- Prefill time / total time / tokens (from the `usage:` line in `result.txt`): prefill=3.7s / decode=21.5s / total=25.3s / prompt_tokens=17830 / completion_tokens=943 / 43.9 tok/s. Seventeen tool calls in 25 s wall clock is the fastest tool-per-second rate in the whole 40-prompt set.
- Ended a turn with a statement of intent and no tool call? (y/n): n
- Live status indicator matched what actually happened? (y/n): y — every "Calling …" entry corresponds to a real call in the right order, including the four batched RDAP calls shown as four separate entries, and the surfaced thoughts accurately describe the `http_headers` limitation the model was working around. One number disagrees, as elsewhere in this set: the indicator said "prompt processed in 1.8 s" while `usage:` reports prefill=3.7s.
- Anything odd (loops, truncation notices, tool errors, effect of the inlet nudge): (1) **`http_headers` does not return raw header values.** It reported `Present: HSTS, CSP, clickjacking protection, MIME sniffing protection, referrer policy, permissions policy` — an assessment, not the data. The prompt explicitly asked for max-age and the two flags, so the tool could not answer the question it exists to answer, and the model burned five calls (one repeat + three blocked fetches + one securityheaders fetch) working around it. This is the single biggest harness finding in this run. (2) **The egress proxy blocks public API hosts and mislabels why** (see above) — `api.hstspreload.org` in particular is the authoritative answer to the preload half of question 4, and it was blocked. (3) No loops, no truncation notices. (4) Quantitative-question nudge: the prompt carries no number with a unit, so it does not fire; the tool discipline here was unassisted. (5) Worth recording for its own sake: `lookup_ip_or_asn` returns the RIR *allocation*, not the *announced* prefix or origin AS — the model had to fetch RIPEstat to answer "which ASN announces each of them", which is the literal question asked.
## Result (fill in)
- **Score:** 9.5 / 10
- **Breakdown:** correctness 4.5/5 · calibration 2/2 · tool use 2/2 · communication 1/1 · deductions −0
- **Verdict:** **pass**
- **What it got right:** The thing the prompt was built to test. Cloudflare is the most heavily memorised target in the set — AS13335 and "HSTS preload" are the kind of facts a model can recite without looking — and **not one value in this answer came from memory.** I traced every figure back to a tool result: both A and both AAAA records with their TTLs, AS13335 and CLOUDFLARENET and the 2010-07-14 registration from RDAP, the announced prefixes `104.16.128.0/20` and `2606:4700::/44` from RIPEstat, the WE1 / Google Trust Services issuer and the 2026-12-04 expiry and the five SANs from `inspect_tls`, and the raw HSTS string from a timestamped securityheaders capture. All of it also matches my own independent live lookups at grading time. IPv6 was never treated as an afterthought: AAAA resolved, RDAP run on **both** v6 addresses, a separate v6 prefix fetch. It drew a distinction the prompt did not ask for and the rubric did not anticipate — RIR allocation versus announced prefix — because the RDAP tool answers the first and the question asked the second. And when three of its fetches failed — on hostnames it had guessed, which the tool wrongly reported as private-network blocks — it said so to itself, changed targets, and still finished, rather than filling the gap from recall.
- **What it got wrong:** One real gap, honestly flagged. The raw HSTS value it reports is `www.cloudflare.com`'s, not the apex's, because `http_headers` would not surface the apex's raw header. The value is correct for `www` (I verified `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains` live), and the model disclosed the substitution and its reason in the answer — but `cloudflare.com` itself sends a **different** max-age, `15780000`, which never reached the user. So question 4 is answered accurately about the wrong host, with the substitution declared. Secondary, and not its fault: it could not check preload-list membership because `api.hstspreload.org` was blocked; its "preload = not set" is nonetheless the right answer to the question asked, since neither host emits a `preload` token.
- **Worth recording in TUNING.md?** (only if it exposes a harness or prompt weakness): **yes — two findings, the first significant.** (1) **`http_headers` returns an assessment instead of the data.** Asked for HSTS max-age and flags, it answered `Present: HSTS, CSP, clickjacking protection, …`. The model could see this was not the value, said so, and spent five further calls — one duplicate `http_headers`, three blocked fetches and one successful third-party scrape — trying to obtain a header it had already fetched. The tool should return the raw `strict-transport-security` value (and ideally the raw headers for the whole redirect chain, since the apex and `www` demonstrably differ). Without that change, this rubric's own HSTS criterion, "max-age, includeSubDomains, preload match `http_headers` output", cannot be satisfied by any model. (2) **The proxy error text asserts a cause it has not established.** `bgpview.io`, `api.hstspreload.org` and `api.http-headers.com` were all refused with *"This usually means the address is on a private network"*. **Correction, established after grading (2026-09-11): none of those three hosts exists.** All are NXDOMAIN — the model invented plausible-looking API hostnames, squid answered the CONNECT with 503 ERR_DNS_FAIL, and `httpc.explain` mapped every `ProxyError` onto the private-network message regardless of status. So the proxy was not refusing public hosts, and the ACL needs no change; the defect is entirely in the message, and it is worse than it first appeared — it told the model its guessed hostname was blocked infrastructure, which is the one explanation that stops it suspecting the name. Fixed in TUNING.md Change 50: 503/ERR_DNS_FAIL, 403/ERR_ACCESS_DENIED and 502/504 now produce three different messages. Note that the real preload endpoint is `hstspreload.org/api/v2/status`, with no `api.` subdomain. (3) Minor, consistent with the rest of the set: the live indicator's "prompt processed in 1.8 s" versus `usage: prefill=3.7s`. (4) Minor, feature request rather than defect: `lookup_ip_or_asn` gives the RIR allocation; a BGP origin-AS field would remove the need for the RIPEstat detour.
## Grader notes
- Ground truth verification: re-ran all six lookups from the grading host on **2026-09-11, ~11:58–12:00 UTC**. `dig +short cloudflare.com A` → `104.16.132.229`, `104.16.133.229`. AAAA via DoH (`cloudflare-dns.com` and `dns.google`, since the local resolver returned none) → `2606:4700::6810:85e5`, `2606:4700::6810:84e5`. RDAP via `rdap.org` → `NET-104-16-0-0-1` / `NET6-2606-4700-1`, both `CLOUDFLARENET`. Origin AS via `whois -h whois.cymru.com` → **AS13335**, `CLOUDFLARENET - Cloudflare, Inc., US`, prefixes `104.16.128.0/20` (v4) and `2606:4700::/44` (v6) — both identical to what the model's RIPEstat fetches returned. TLS via `openssl s_client` → issuer `C = US, O = Google Trust Services, CN = WE1`, subject `CN = cloudflare.com`, `notAfter Dec 4 23:29:33 2026 GMT`. HSTS via `curl -sI`: apex → `max-age=15780000; includeSubDomains`; `www` → `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`; neither carries `preload`. Preload-list membership via `hstspreload.org/api/v2/status` → `"status": "preloaded"`. Separately, every value in the model's answer was grepped back to a `TOOL RESULT` block in `result.txt` to confirm nothing was memory-sourced.
- Rubric issues: **one ground-truth correction and two readings.** (1) **Corrected:** the rubric's expected `max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains; preload` is wrong — no `preload` token is sent by either host, and the apex's max-age is `15780000`. The correction table is inserted in the Ground truth section above, and the model was graded against the verified live values. The rubric also did not anticipate that the apex and `www` send different max-ages, which is what makes the HSTS line a half rather than a whole. (2) **Unsatisfiable criterion:** "HSTS … match `http_headers` output" cannot be met while `http_headers` emits an assessment rather than the header; I graded the substance (is the reported value right, is it honestly attributed) instead of the literal text, and said so on the line. (3) **Reading on the HSTS half-point:** I required the value to be right for the host the user asked about. A grader who instead credits any correctly-sourced and correctly-labelled raw value would award 1/1, taking this to **10/10** — same verdict either way. (4) The seven `fetch_page` calls are outside the rubric's tool-use criterion, which counts only the four named tools; I judged them justified rather than wasted and explained why, since three were proxy refusals and the rest filled genuine tool gaps.

HSTS is present, but the actual header value wasn't displayed. I need the raw value of the HSTS header. The http_headers tool only showed a summary of the security headers, and there were no raw values. Let me try fetching again... the tool doesn't display the raw value of the HSTS header. Hmm. Maybe I can use web_search? No, that's not right. Let me call http_headers again — it'll probably return the same summary. The summary says "Present: HSTS" but there's no value. I need the raw value.
Options: try fetching https://www.cloudflare.com directly (the final URL) — it'll probably still be a summary. This tool seems to group security headers into a summary. Let me try again with the www URL and see if the headers are displayed in full. Actually, the response headers listed above didn't include the strict-transport-security line — it was summarized. I might have to note that the tool reported HSTS as present but didn't provide the raw value. But let me try again first — maybe with the www URL the full headers will be displayed.

=== [14] THINKING ===
The http_headers tool doesn't display the raw value of the HSTS header, it only shows "Present: HSTS". I need the raw value including max-age, includeSubDomains, and preload. Let me try web_search, or fetching via some other method. Can I use curl? No, I don't have a shell. I could try fetch_page, but that returns the page's content, not the headers.
Options: use web_search to find the HSTS value? That's not live. Better approach: there might be a service that displays raw headers, like check-tls, securityheaders.com, or similar. I could fetch a page like https://securityheaders.com/?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cloudflare.com&followRedirects=on, but that's probably a JS-driven app. Alternative: use the "http-headers" API: https://api.http-headers.com/... Actually, api.http-headers.com exists: https://api.http-headers.com/v3/?url=... Let me try fetching that.
Also, I need the ASN for each IP: 104.16.132.229, 104.16.133.229, 2606:4700::6810:84e5, 2606:4700::6810:85e5. I'll use lookup_ip_or_asn.

=== [24] TOOL RESULT: fetch_page (call_u44gvdx3) ===
FAILED: Access to https://api.http-headers.com/v3/?url=https://www.cloudflare.com was refused by the egress proxy. This usually means the address is on a private network, which this assistant cannot reach. Tell the user you have no access to that host instead of guessing its contents.
=== [25] THINKING ===
RDAP returned the registration info, but not the AS number. The question is asking "which AS number is announcing each of them." RDAP's IP lookup returned the allocation, but not the announcing AS. Hmm — the tool is supposed to be able to return AS info. The results didn't include an AS. Cloudflare is AS13335, but I shouldn't just say that from memory. Can I find the announcing AS via a live lookup? Options: web_search for "104.16.132.229 AS" — not live. There's a BGP view API: https://bgpview.io/api/v1/ip/104.16.132.229 — let me try fetching this. Also, for HSTS raw values, I'll try securityheaders.com's API: https://securityheaders.com/?q=... is JS. Alternative: https://api.hstspreload.org/?host=cloudflare.com — this will tell me if it's preloaded, but not the header value itself.
Let me try the bgpview API for each IP (or the /24 prefix). And for HSTS, I'll try fetching a service that returns the raw headers, e.g. https://check-tls.com? Or use "curl" via a service like https://www.whatsmydns.net? No, that won't work.
Options for raw HSTS:
- https://securityheaders.com/?q=https://www.cloudflare.com&followRedirects=on — JS-driven, but the API endpoint: https://securityheaders.com/api/?q=... unknown.
- https://headerschecker.com — JS.
- https://api.http-headers.com — blocked.
- https://http-headers-checker.com — JS.
- webcrack? No.
- https://www.whatsmyua? No.
Maybe I can fetch https://api.hstspreload.org/?host=cloudflare.com to confirm preload status. As for the raw header, try https://tls.browserleaks.com? No.
Another idea: use web_search with site: to find a cached header dump — but that's not live.
Let me try the bgpview API first.

=== [32] THINKING ===
These endpoints are being blocked by the egress proxy. Let me try alternatives:
- BGP: https://stat.ripe.net/data/network-info/data.json?resource=104.16.133.229
- HSTS: Try a web search? Not live. Try fetching securityheaders.com? It's a JS app. Try https://headers.checker? Or try "https://www.whatsmydns.net" — no, that's for DNS.
Another option: use web_search to find the raw HSTS header value? Not live.
Let me try stat.ripe.net.

Both are announced in AS13335. Next, I'll retrieve the ASN name via RDAP: lookup_ip_or_asn with "AS13335". Also, I need the raw value of HSTS. I'll try the securityheaders.com API: https://securityheaders.com/?q=https://www.cloudflare.com&followRedirects=on returns HTML with embedded JSON... maybe I can fetch it. Or try "https://api.securityheaders.com"? Not sure. Let me try fetching the securityheaders.com page.
Also, I'll try the raw value of HSTS via a header checker API that returns JSON. Options: https://headerschecker.com (JS), https://check-your-headers.useragent.xyz? Let me try fetching securityheaders.com.

=== [42] THINKING (5s) ===
Now I have everything. HSTS: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains (no preload). Note: this is from www.cloudflare.com (the redirect target), but my own header check confirmed that HSTS is present on cloudflare.com too — however, I don't have the raw value for the apex domain. The securityheaders report is for www. I should be honest about this point: the raw HSTS value was obtained from www.cloudflare.com, and my direct check on the apex domain confirmed that HSTS is present, but the tool didn't display the raw value. That's fine.
Note on the TLS certificate: the issuer is WE1, Google Trust Services, valid until 2026-12-04 23:29 UTC (about 84 days remaining).
ASNs: both IPv4 and IPv6 are announced by AS13335 CLOUDFLARENET, owned by Cloudflare, Inc. (RDAP).
Present the raw values.
=== [43] ASSISTANT TEXT ===
All four items were pulled live just now. Raw values:
**1. DNS (from public internet, TTL 300s)**
- A: `104.16.132.229`, `104.16.133.229`
- AAAA: `2606:4700::6810:84e5`, `2606:4700::6810:85e5`
**2. ASN / ownership**
- Both IPv4 addresses: RIR allocation `104.16.0.0/12`, registrant **Cloudflare, Inc.** (RDAP). Ripestat shows the smallest announced prefix `104.16.128.0/20` in **AS13335**.
- Both IPv6 addresses: RIR allocation `2606:4700::/32`, registrant **Cloudflare, Inc.** (RDAP). Ripestat shows announced prefix `2606:4700::/44` in **AS13335**.
- AS13335: name `CLOUDFLARENET`, registrant **Cloudflare, Inc.**, registered 2010-07-14, status active (RDAP).
**3. TLS certificate (cloudflare.com:443)**
- Subject: `CN=cloudflare.com`
- Issuer: `CN=WE1, O=Google Trust Services, C=US`
- Valid from: `2026-09-05 22:29 UTC` → Valid until: `2026-12-04 23:29 UTC` (~84 days left)
- Signature: ecdsa-with-SHA256; chain validated against the public trust store
- Negotiated: TLSv1.3, `TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384`
- SANs (5): `cloudflare.com`, `ns.cloudflare.com`, `*.ns.cloudflare.com`, `*.secondary.cloudflare.com`, `secondary.cloudflare.com`
**4. HSTS**
- Present: yes — my direct header probe of `https://cloudflare.com` (which 301-redirects to `https://www.cloudflare.com`) reported HSTS present on both hops.
- Raw value (from a live securityheaders.com capture of `https://www.cloudflare.com/` at 11 Sep 2026 05:32:01 UTC):
`strict-transport-security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains`
- So: **max-age = 31536000** (1 year), **includeSubDomains = set**, **preload = not set**.
Caveats: the DNS/TLS/header lookups ran from this server's vantage point (BOS/DUB edge per cf-ray), so your local or split-horizon DNS could differ. The raw HSTS string was captured from the `www` host, since that's where the apex redirects to; my own probe confirmed HSTS is present on the apex response but only reported it as "present" without the full value.
